      B.M.S. (Management Studies )

From the year 1999-2000 the Mumbai University started a new Professional course viz., Bachelor of Management Studies (B.M.S.). It is a Three-year full time Degree Course comprising of Six Semesters).

Ordinances and Regulations relating to the Degree Course in Management Studies

Title: THE DEGREE SHALL BE TITLED AS BACHELOR OF MANAGEMENT STUDIES (B.M.S.)

Objectives

•  To create for the student of University of Mumbai an additional avenue of self-employment and also to benefit the industry by providing them suitable trained persons.

•  To prepare students to exploit opportunities being newly created in the Management Profession.

•  To provide adequate basic understanding about Management Education among the students.

•  To give an adequate exposure to operational environment in the field of Management.

•  To inculcate training in the use of modern technology for the benefit of all the parties concerned.

•  A candidate for being eligible for admission to the degree course in management studies shall have passed the Diploma in Engineering or XII Std. Examination of the Maharashtra Board of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent and secured not less than 45 % in aggregate at first attempt and 40% in case of Reserved Category at first attempt.

•  Must have appeared and passed in the CCEE of the University. A Muslim student can also appear for the CET of the College.

Duration

  1. The course shall be a full time course. The duration of the course shall be 6 semesters spread over 3 years.
  2. Numbers of students: a batch shall consist of not more than 60 students. 50% seats shall be reserved for Muslim students only.
  3. The course shall consist of 40 modules comprising of 38 theory papers and 2 projects.

•  Total number of lectures per theory paper shall be a minimum of 50 and maximum of 55, each of 50 minutes duration.

•  For project I & II the teacher shall initially engage about 5 lectures for orientation. The student shall visit field for data collection and analyze the same. Before the report is finalized the student shall present their findings to the faculty wherein faculties shall provide guidelines for finalization of the same.

Scheme of Examination

i. The Examination shall be conducted at the end of each semester.

ii. The theory paper shall carry 100 marks. The evaluation of the performance of the students in theory paper shall be on the basis of internal assessment (40%) and semester and examination (60%). Internal evaluation shall be on the basis on class assignments, group discussions, seminar and attendance etc. The semester and examination shall be held at the end of each semester and shall be of 2 hours duration.

iii. The responsibility of evaluation during the first four semesters shall rest with the college / institution wherein the students are admitted for the course. The college / institution shall carry out the internal evaluation for theory papers in semesters V and VI while the university shall conduct the Semesters and examination for these two semesters. The internal evaluation marks of student appearing for semester V and VI shall be sent to the University by the respective College / Institution before the commencement of the respective semester-end examination.

iv. The evaluation of project I & II shall be carried out by the examiner appointed by the university inclusive of viva-voce examination. The project report shall be assessed for 60% of the total marks while viva-voce examination shall carry 40% of the marks.

Passing Standards

i. A candidate shall have to obtain a minimum of 50% marks in each theory paper and project to clear a particular semester.

ii. A candidate shall be placed in First Class with Distinction if he/she secures a minimum of 50% marks in each of the theory papers and projects in semester V & VI considered separately and at least 75% marks in aggregate.

iii. A candidate shall be placed in First Class if he/she secures a minimum of 50% marks in each of the theory papers and project in semester V & VI considered separately and at least 60% marks in aggregate.

iv. A candidate shall be placed in second class if he/she secures a minimum of 50% marks in each of the theory papers and project in Semester V & VI considering separately and at least 50% marks in aggregate.

v. A candidate shall have to secure at least 50 % marks in each of the theory papers and projects to pass the examination.

vi. A candidate who fails in any particular theory papers shall be allowed to reappear for that theory paper/s. however his/her internal evaluation marks shall be carried over. But shall not be entitled to any class on passing.

vii. A candidate who fails in more than two theory papers at the semester and examination shall not be allowed to keep terms for the next semester.
