INTRODUCTION


The B.Sc. (Comp. Science) of University of Mumbai and its affiliated Colleges aim to synergies Information Technology in all its ramifications. To meet this objective, this program is designed to provide basic inputs in various aspects of an broad understanding of IT and its other interdisciplinary interfaces. The focus of the program is Information Technology and Management of Information Technology.

A look at successful business today reveals one strategic stand common to all – they have evolved to become information-enabled businesses. Smart business is turning to technology to guarantee them the extra edge to stay ahead of the pack. Information Technology's role is fast emerging as a driver rather than an enabler of business. It is used from simple office automation to decision support, re-engineering and organization transformation. A new center of professionals, who will harness the awesome capabilities of Information Technology, is required to tap the full potential of this tool.

This is an integrated course of 3 years duration. After completion of the course a candidate can enroll for a Post Graduation degree of 2 years duration leading to a Masters of Science in Computer Science M.Sc.(CS) degree.

Eligibility

10+2 Science candidates with 50 % marks and with Mathematics at 12th level.

Admission criteria:

HSC Marks + College Entrance Test (CET) + Personal Interviews

The College has been allotted 60 seats for the B.Sc (CS) course. Out of which 30 seats are reserved for Muslims only. The other 30 seats will be filled in by the University.

- Admission procedure

1.

Student shall be admitted on his / her performance in the H.S.C. + C.S.T. + Personal Interview conducted by Akbar Peerbhoy College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai.

2.
Students who have appeared for H.S.C. examinations or its equivalent are eligible to appear for the Common Entrance Test. However, they will be eligible for admission to the B.Sc.(CS) course provided they have:
  a.

          Secured minimum 50 % marks at the H.S.C. examinations or its equivalent for the general category (at one and the same sitting) and minimum 45 % marks for the reserved category (at one and the same sitting) with Mathematics as one of the subject. AND

  b.

          Score secured at the Common Selection Test. (C.S.T.)

  C.

Marks secured at the Personal Interviews.

The seats available in our College will be filled on the basis of merit. The reservations of seats shall be as per the State Government / University rules. For further information the aspirant students are requested to contact the College Office.

The B.Sc (CS) course is likely to start from the month of September 2003.

Objectives of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (B.Sc.(CS) course

1.

To create for the students of University of Mumbai an additional avenue of self-employment and also to benefit Industry by providing them with suitable computer-enabled persons.

2.

To prepare students to exploit the power of Computers.

3 To provide adequate basic understanding about Computers among the students.
4.

To give an adequate exposure to operational environment in the field of Computer and IT.


Duration

The course shall be a full time course. The duration of the course shall be spread over three years. The course shall consist of 20 papers. Each paper will be of 100 marks theory and 50 marks practical/tutorials. Project will be evaluated for a total of 20 marks.
